Robbie Synge was a physiologist before pursuing dance and, more recently, film and animation. He has worked in diverse performance and education projects across the UK and made a number of professional works, the first of which was presented with Julie Cleves at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009. In 2011, Robbie returned home to Ross-shire in Scotland to work as an associate artist with Frank McConnell and plan B.
Settlement is inspired by his move from urban London to rural Ross-shire and considers our relationship with the built and natural environments that surround us. To be developed in both these locations, the piece will involve simple architectural elements generating spatial rhythms and a dynamic, evolving space.
