The Place Prize for dance, sponsored by Bloomberg, is the UK's biggest and most prestigious contemporary dance competition.
Held biennially since 2004, The Place Prize uniquely commissioned entries which are presented at The Place and assessed by judging panels and the votes of the audience. Over a series of Finals performances, nightly prizes of £1,000 are awarded to the work winning the most audience votes. At the conclusion of each Place Prize, the judges choose one work to win £25,000 and the title of "The Place Prize winner" for its creator.
Any UK-based dance maker can enter The Place Prize, and entries are assessed unattributed on the quality of the idea for a new short contemporary dance work. In five editions from 2004 - 2013, The Place Prize has enabled the creation of 92 new works, and invested £1.4million in new dance.
