EDge, the postgraduate performance company of London Contemporary Dance School, has announced details of its annual Spring tour, from 7 April to 16 July 2011, across 21 national and international venues.
The company's 12 dancers will present a programme of works by some of the most exciting choreographers currently working in the UK and Europe. The tour showcases four original pieces of choreography ranging from the complexity of Martin Forsberg's BRAID to the playful game-dance of 36, by Jorge Crecis. P&J and Running up the down escalator, both new works from Place Prize finalists Eva Recacha and Ben Duke respectively, and a revival of Jeremy James' signature work, My Big Pants, complete the programme.
The tour takes EDge performers across the UK and Europe, including dates at Danstationen, Malmö (Sweden, Fri 29 April), Dansehallerne, Copenhagen (Denmark, Sat 30 April), Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, (Austria, Sat 11 June), Casa Das Artes, Braga (Portugal, Thu 7, Fri 8 and Sun 10 July), Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray (Thu 14 July) and Birr Theatre & Arts Centre, (Sat 16 July, both Ireland). EDge will perform at The Place from Thu 30 June to Sat 2 July.
EDge has established a reputation for presenting engaging and diverse works performed by young professional dance artists at key stages of their careers. The EDge Spring tour represents the culmination of the year-long course, which offers post-graduate performers the chance to work together as an ensemble across different styles of contemporary dance.
This year the dancers of EDge are drawn from around the globe: Felicity Beveridge, John Kendall and Matt Lackford (UK), Doria Belanger (France), Daniele Varallo (Germany), Rachele Rapisardi (Italy), Pauline Demyttenaere (Belgium), Corina Tsipoura (Greece), Margriet Kim Nguyen (The Netherlands), Oliver Mahar (Australia), Tiago Gambogi (Brazil) and Shin Jung Park (Korea), and are all recent graduates from the world's finest dance conservatoires. The period spent with EDge forms the main part of their Postgraduate Diploma in Performance at London Contemporary Dance School, and gives them an invaluable insight into working with choreographers, rehearsing and touring as a professional company.
