LearnPhysical interactive is based on our highly successful programme A New Place for Dance in Schools. This new professional development initiative for primary schools shows teachers how to create multi-sensory lessons based on cross-curriculum topics in a variety of subject areas, including language, geography, science, history and visual art.
LearnPhysical interactive aims to:
- improve teachers’ use of dance as part of a multi-sensory and cross-curricular approach to teaching and learning for a range of subjects
- develop cross-curricular resources using ICT tools
- contribute to the development of teaching methodology at Key Stages 1 and 2 through the use of digital resources
- enable teachers to use movement and dance flexibly and independently
We are actively researching multi-sensory cross-curricular learning using ICT resources such as interactive whiteboards and handheld digital technology. With these tools the pupils and teachers will be able to make live links to the web, integrate formative assessment and interactive activities into lessons and develop pupils' skills in critical reflection and self-directed learning.
In the 2009-2010 academic year the programme will:
- work with three partnership schools to plan and deliver cross-curricular lessons using interactive whiteboards and Sony PSPs
- work with a researcher from the Open University to evaluate the teaching and learning methodologies being developed
- develop practical resources to support cross-curricular learning and teaching
We would particularly like to thank the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation for their generous grant to help us research and develop LearnPhysical interactive as a new learning and teaching initiative and also the John Lyon’s Charity for their continued support.
