Rosemary Lee
Square Dances
Free outdoor event - Queen Square WC1
Following its premiere in Dance Umbrella 2011, an extract of Work Place artist Rosemary Lee's Square Dances will be restaged as part of the Festival. 22 students from London Contemporary Dance School will appear in Queen Square at intervals throughout the morning. The quietness and reverie of the square will be punctuated briefly by intense, intricate, yet fleeting solos performed to audience members seated on the benches. Each solo is distinctive to the dancer and made specifically for the square and its visitors.
Square Dances is commissioned and produced by Dance Umbrella in association with Rosemary Lee Projects and Artsadmin.
Supported by The Place and repeated with the kind permission of Dance Umbrella.

Dancing Around The Place
Young dancers from The Place's Children and Youth Dance Programme plus the Adult Performance Company will be performing surprise 'pop-up' dances in a number of squares and other locations, interacting with their surroundings.
These performances culminate with In Large Numbers, a grand finale with live music taking place in Russell Square on Sunday 23 at 5pm. You can take part in the grand finale by learning sections of the choreography in a workshop at The Place on Sunday.
