Our core programme of contemporary dance, ballet and jazz technique classes for absolute beginners through to advanced students runs throughout the summer. Contemporary and Ballet Introduction courses offer participants taking their first steps in dance the opportunity to be guided through the basics of these techniques.  For those who want to further their understanding and experience of contemporary dance we have included an Introduction to Contact Improvisation and Choreography. The Performance Project offers participants at Levels 1 and 2 a unique opportunity to work with a renowned choreographer and experienced dancers will be challenged by our range of contemporary and ballet courses with highlights such as Partner Work taught by Vicky Evans and Flying Low technique led by Hannes Langolf.

Complementing our core programme are a series of sessions led by specially selected resident companies who will teach current repertory and creative workshops giving a rare insight into the companies' work. This year we will be joined by DV8 Physical Theatre, Ballet Boyz and Wayne McGregor|Random Dance.

Our Around the Globe series includes Introduction to Capoeria with Ponciano Almeida, African and Contemporary Fusion with Francis Angol and Argentine Tango with Bianca Vrcan and Sacha El Masri. For those looking for a touch of razzmatazz, Aaron Francis is back bringing Theatreland to The Place with his Jazz class incorporating repertory from West End shows.  For a more urban flavour 2FaCeD DaNcE Company and Zoo Nation will be leading hip-hop courses.

In the third week there will be a unique opportunity to work with Chisato Ohno from Netherlands Dance Theatre, who will be teaching a Gaga workshop. Gaga technique was developed by the Artistic Director of the world renowned Batsheva Dance Company and requires the participant to be alert, imaginative and dexterous in the use of the body.

Pilates mat and Yoga classes take place throughout the programme deepening participants' understanding of their bodies and alignment.

All participants will have the chance to present work to their Summer Intensives contemporaries at the end of each week in our popular, informal studio sharing.

We look forward to welcoming you to The Place for an inspirational summer of dance.
