This Is The Place tells the story of The Place: a collection of memories, anecdotes, dancers and performances that have together shaped The Place, as well as the stories of many for whom The Place has played an important role in their life and work.

"For any contemporary dance junkies, this is one not to be missed" Time Out

This Is The Place is a meeting of diverse and acclaimed performers, coming together to celebrate the legacy and impact of 40 years’ work developing the careers of artists and shaping the future of dance.

Directed by internationally celebrated choreographer Aletta Collins, the work includes extracts from seminal pieces by:

  • Richard Alston
  • Robert Cohan
  • Siobhan Davies
  • Jane Dudley
  • Jeremy James
  • Tom Jobe
  • Shobana Jeyasingh
  • Victoria Marks
  • Frauke Requardt
  • Wim Vandekeybus
  • Jose Vidal

The star-studded cast of performers includes Richard Alston, Valentina Formenti, Anca Frankenhaeuser, Fred Gehrig, Patrick Harding-Irmer, Rachel Krische, Martin Lawrance, Etta Murfitt, Namron, Eddie Nixon, Keir Patrick, Angela Towler, Kenneth Tharp and more, plus students from London Contemporary Dance School and young dancers from The Place.

This Is The Place is specially commissioned for The Place’s 40th birthday celebrations, and has just three performances. Preceding each performance, a work by h2dance, with Pegasus Choir and original music by Sylvia Hallett, plays interactive tribute to the previous incarnation of The Place’s building as a drill hall for the Artists Rifles regiment.

From each ticket sold for This Is The Place, £5 will be reinvested in The Place’s Pioneering Fund, providing The Place with financial resources to take risks and break new ground, creating a fertile environment where the newest and most exciting things in dance are most likely to happen.

Tickets for This is The Place are £25 (concessions £20). The price includes a souvenir programme and drinks reception after the performance.

NOTE: Sat 22 May performance is now SOLD OUT.
Tickets are available for Thu 20 May and Fri 21 May.

  • The Place’s 40th anniversary celebrations are generously supported by the International Foundation for Arts and Culture
