The Place's Robin Howard Dance Theatre is Britain's busiest dance venue, presenting independent companies throughout the year.
The theatre is a studio designed for dance performance, named after the founder of The Place. Nearly 300 seats are raked to a stage 15 metres wide and 12 metres deep, wall to wall.
The theatre's programme includes several annual and biennial seasons of themed work, including:
- Resolution! (each January/Februrary)
- Spring Loaded (each April/May)
- The Place Prize (alternate Septembers)
- Touch Wood (alternate Septembers)
- Dance Umbrella (each October)
- Fresh (each December)
Additionally, we present special seasons of curated work, and also present touring works from UK and international companies. The theatre also hosts regular performances from The Place's dance company - Richard Alston Dance Company - and performance works created by the students of The Place's London Contemporary Dance School.
The overall programme is devised by the theatre director, Eddie Nixon. Collectively, it forms a diverse representation of work from London, the UK, Europe, and sometimes further afield. Companies appear by invitation, and proposals should be sent to the director. A few works are offered small commissions. The only season open to application is Resolution! The Place Prize season is also open to application, please see the website for further details www.theplaceprize.com
The theatre is occasionally available for use by private hirers, for whom The Place can also offer a box office service. For further information on hiring the Robin Howard Dance Theatre, please contact the Theatre Administrator, amy.johnson@theplace.org.uk or call 020 7121 1063
