London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS) provides extensive vocational training of the highest quality through its undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, producing leading choreographers and professional dance artists.

Fund for Excellence
London Contemporary Dance School encourages applications from talented students regardless of their background and financial circumstances.  We do recognise, however, that our students can struggle with financial pressures, which may be exacerbated by the extra costs involved with living in London, the introduction of ‘top up’ fees and the current economic situation.

For this reason our student fund, the Fund for Excellence was established to distribute bursaries to students in need of additional financial support. These awards make a real difference to those who might otherwise not have the resources necessary to complete their training. Each year, around a third of our students need additional financial support to enable them to continue with their studies. The high physical and academic demands of our programmes, alongside the hours of training required, make it very difficult for students to hold part-time jobs.

We are reliant upon the generous contributions of trusts and individual donors to support the Fund for Excellence.  Even a small donation is actually worth considerably more with the inclusion of Gift Aid and the support we receive from HEFCE’s Match Funding Scheme, through the Conservatoire for Dance & Drama.

The Fund for Excellence is a crucial way to support these exceptionally talented students. You can support the Fund by giving online or by downloading and returning a Fund for Excellence donation form.

If you would like to discuss supporting The Fund for Excellence please contact Craig Edwards in the Development Department on 0207 121 1054 or email craig.edwards@theplace.org.uk

We are grateful to our current supporters: The Craignish Charitable Trust, The Harold Hyam Wingate Foundation, Fenton Arts Trust, The Leverhulme Trust, The Lunn Prothero Fund, The South Square Charitable Trust and The Thistle Trust.

Commissions at LCDS
The School involves the most exciting international artists in its work in order to advance the practical knowledge of its students on the cusp of their professional careers.

EDge, the School’s postgraduate performance company, gives its members the experience of working in a small to mid-scale touring company operating in the UK. Following an intensive six month period creating new work commissioned from professional choreographers, the company go on to tour venues throughout the UK and Europe.

We are grateful to The Leche Trust and The Garrick Charitable Trust for their support of commissions and the Idlewild Trust for their support of EDge.

Alumni Network
2009 saw the launch of the Alumni Network at LCDS and a campaign to reconnect with the School’s former students. LCDS alumni automatically become part of our extensive network of contemporary dance professionals and the School is currently organising a series of professional development and networking events for alumni. If you are a former student please ensure that we have your correct contact details so that we can inform you about these exciting opportunities. Visit our alumni pages for more information and to update your details.
