Information for entrants

Entries for The Place Prize 2008 have now closed.

All professional choreographers based in the UK were invited to apply for The Place Prize, a choreographic competition culminating in the award of £25,000 at The Place in September 2008.

In addition there are twenty commissions of £5,000, five paid contracts to present works in the Finals, and ten audience prizes of £1,000.

1.
To apply please send:
    A three minute video
A completed entry form, signed and dated
The deadline for receipt of entries for The Place Prize 2008 is 5pm Thursday 31 January 2008.

2.
Three minute video
The aim of the video is to allow you to show the commissioners the stimulus for your choreographic idea. The video must include movement material. This can be complemented by speaking to camera or illustrated through images or music - or a combination. If you wish you may record a title on the tape but do not include credits as the tapes will be viewed anonymously.

The commissioners will be looking at content rather than the presentation of the material - don't be seduced by the media, it is merely a mechanism to convey your choreographic idea. The Place Prize is a competition for the creation of choreography, not dance for the screen; however video and new technology may be integrated as elements in the work.

The video must be on a digital format (Mini DV), to maintain the quality of the material when it is copied. You provide the tape. The maximum length is three minutes - additional footage will not be viewed. Your material must be recorded at the beginning of the tape with ten seconds of black at the start.

3.
The entry form is very simple so that you can put your time and energy into producing the video. There is no further application form. Please print out the entry form, complete, date and sign.

4.
Place your Mini DV tape in a padded envelope. Wrap your signed entry form around the tape and secure. Include no other material. Label the envelope:

An email will be sent to you confirming receipt. You should keep a copy of the video and entry form for your own records.

5.
Each entry will be viewed by a minimum of nine commissioners of which six will be Aerowaves partners.

Forty shortlisted entrants will be invited to give a ten minute presentation in their chosen format to three of the commissioners explaining how they would develop their choreographic idea with a £5,000 commission if selected. The presentation will be followed by a fifteen minute discussion. These sessions will be scheduled between Monday 10 March and Thursday 20 March 2008 inclusive.

6.
Twenty of the shortlisted entrants will be offered a commission of £5,000. They will be required to attend The Place Prize briefing on Wednesday 2 April at The Place.
