Dozens of the contemporary choreographers who have made the biggest impact on dance in Britain over the past 40 years gathered at The Place today, recreating Art Kane’s famous “Great Day in Harlem” 1958 photo of jazz musicians.

- Commissioned choreographers include two former Place Prize finalists, a b-boy crew from Newcastle and one of the top dancers from BBC TV’s So You Think You Can Dance

EDge celebrates its 10th birthday with an international tour

EDge 2010, the Postgraduate Performance Company of London Contemporary Dance School will be celebrating with ten exceptional dancers, three international artists and three up-and-coming choreographers on a 19 date tour. The performances and workshops start in Denmark, span the UK and Europe and culminate in a week-long residency at Casa das Artes in Portugal in July.

Spring Loaded 2010 announced

Spring Loaded returns to The Place from Saturday 10 April to Saturday 8 May with a series of adventures into contemporary choreography that reveal the fascinating edges of current dance practice. There are chances to see new works on stage, on a platform in St Pancras International station and in a site-specific performance in nearby Bloomsbury, plus Q&As after every performance in the theatre.
Ellie Beedham appointed Producer at The Place

The Place has appointed Ellie Beedham to the new role of Producer within its Theatre and Artist Development department. Ellie will work closely with Eddie Nixon, Director of Theatre and Artist Development, on the development and presentation of work for Britain’s busiest dance theatre.
February/March theatre programme

The Place’s theatre programme for 23 February to 30 March features some of the UK’s most successful touring companies with new work from celebrated choreographers. Following selected performances, new question and answer sessions will give audiences the opportunity to learn more about the work they have seen. The February/March programme also includes creative and collaborative works from students of London Contemporary Dance School.

As part of the continuing celebration of The Place’s 40th anniversary, a first ever reunion of London Contemporary Dance School Students will be held at The Place on Wednesday 10 February from 5-9pm.

Resolution! at The Place is the annual platform for the newest in contemporary choreography. By the end of the forthcoming 2010 season it will have presented over 1600 dance companies since its inception in 1990.

The Place, the UK’s premier centre for contemporary dance, is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a programme of special events taking place between September 2009 and July 2010.
The first event is Taste The Place, two days of free dance taster sessions designed to introduce people of all ages to the joys of dance, on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September.
