Nicky Ellis BSc (Hons) Osteo Med
Nicky trained at the Arts Educational School and London Contemporary Dance School. She has worked with choreographers Aletta Collins, Laurie Booth, Charles Linehan, Lea Anderson, and Jasmin Vardimon. She teaches at English National Ballet School and Central School of Ballet, and has also taught at Elmhurst, the Arts Educational Schools, and the Hungarian Dance Academy. Nicky currently performs with Twitch Dance Company.
Gareth Green
Gareth was originally from Cheshire and trained at London Contemporary Dance School, studying for a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours, Postgraduate Diploma and Masters Degree in Contemporary Dance. He toured with EDge in 2004 and since leaving EDge performed and collaborated with various artists and companies including H2dance, Jonathan Lunn, Rick Nodine, English National Opera, Vanessa Haska and Mother Wanted A Girl (MWAG). He has taught extensively throughout the UK as well as Denmark, Portugal, Euskal Herria and Spain. He is currently teaching for The Place Classes and Courses and the Centre for Advanced Training through London Contemporary Dance School. Gareth also works as a freelance Lighting Designer. He has lit work for companies across Europe such as: The collective Five Men Dancing, Oskola (Euskal Herria), La Tipica (Spain), Rick Nodine (UK), Alex Broadie (UK)[Place Prize 2006] as well as Jose Vidal (Chile) Place Prize 2008. This will be Gareth’s final year rehearsing EDge.
Jenny Henry Cert Ed
Jenny studied at Arts Educational Schools and at London Contemporary Dance School. She worked as Costume Supervisor and Costumier for London Contemporary Dance Theatre, and alongside this work she studied at London College of Fashion and Garnett College. Jenny is also Costume Supervisor for The Place.
Susanne Lahusen
Susanne has a BEd in Movement Studies and an MA in Dance Studies; she is a Pilatesfoundation and Alexander teacher, and also has advanced yoga and gyrotonic® certification. Much of her interest in these somatic techniques was inspired by her research and teaching of early 20th century dance history. Susanne teaches yoga, Pilates gyrotonic®, somatics and anatomy at The Place, Laban and The Circus Space, and runs her own studio in Battersea. She leads the Pilates teacher training course at The Place, and is a mentor on the Life Centre yoga teacher training programme .
Sarah Markou MSc BSc Cert Ed
Sarah joined London Contemporary Dance School in 2006 as a student of Dance and a lecturer in Theory of Education. She has trained as a psychologist, specializing in Psychology of Education with a Masters she completed at the Institute of Education in 2005. She also teaches English as a foreign language, and Academic Writing skills.
Rick Nodine BA, PG Dip
After completing a degree in Biology, Rick Nodine went on to study contact improvisation. He began performing in the early 90s, and has danced for the following British choreographers: Kate Brown, Gaby Agis, Karl Jay-Lewin and Sue MacLennan. He danced in the company of Yolande Snaith for five years from 1996 - 2001. For the past 12 years he has collaborated with dancers, actors and musicians, including ESP, 5 men dancing, Jamie McCarthy, Joviar Longo and Philip Jeck to create improvised performance. Rick became a member of staff at London Contemporary Dance School in 2001, he teaches Composition and Improvisation. Most recently he created Drop Cycle, one of the Leche Commissions for the EDge 07 tour.
Nic Sandiland
Nic is a multi-media artist working with installation, performance and film. He originally trained as an electronics engineer before moving on to studying dance and performance in the late 80s. He has made work in London, Europe and South Asia and has presented at theatres, art galleries, and unusual venues. Much of his work has been site specific. His film work has been shown worldwide and has been regularly broadcast on UK TV (Channel 4). Over the past 15 years he has made many pioneering events investigating the integration of video within live performance. Since 2000 this work has increasingly involved the application of new interactive technologies. Recent projects include: Remote Dancing an interactive installation, in collaboration with choreographer Rosemary Lee, commissioned by the Royal Festival Hall, London in 2004 and now touring internationally; Bench Mark a permanent interactive installation commissioned by the Arts Depot, North London; and a large scale outdoor installation in collaboration with Candoco Dance company commissioned by the South Bank Centre, London 2006. He has just finished working with live art practitioner Gary Stevens on an interactive installation currently on show at Matt’s Gallery, East London. Nic has taught workshops on new media in dance around the World including: Bangalore, India and Seoul, South Korea. He currently teaches video production on the MA in dance film at London Contemporary Dance School and also lectures on interactive media at the School for Electronic Arts at Middlesex University.
