Anh Ngoc Nguyen was born in Hanoi and started dancing when he was 11 years old. He trained in ballet at the Vietnamese Dance College and, after graduating with a first class degree, he joined the Vietnamese Opera Theatre. From 1998-2002 he won a full scholarship at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts, majoring in both ballet and contemporary. During this time he worked with Hong Kong/New York choreographer Rosalind Newman. Anh joined Les Ballets Persans in 2002 and won third prize in the Vietnamese National Dance Competition in the same year. He joined Random Dance in January 2003, and has performed in all of the company’s works since that date. Anh is a qualified fitness instructor in Aerobic and Advanced Core Stability from YMCA Fitness Industry Training UK in 2004. Besides dancing, teaching and touring nationally and internationally, Anh has choreographed a number of works including: Nocturnn, Site Specific, Forgotten Child, Harvest (the Rite of Spring), [ZO], Shadow (comissioned by Arts Council England and co-commissioned by ROH2). Anh received the New British Choreography Bonnie Bird Award in 2005 and reworked [ZO] for Doreen Bird College in April 2006.
