Sonia Sabri is one of a new generation of professional Kathak artists, creating work that spans from the presentation of traditional Kathak dance through to exploration of new contemporary approaches, her productions reflecting her appreciation of Indian and British culture.
By retaining the essential purity and integrity of this North Indian classical style and integrating it with current inventions and ideas, Sonia is securing acclaim for creating work that is original in concept whilst also being exciting and relevant to today’s audiences. She has performed in Europe, Indian sub-continent, America, Canada as well all over UK including the Royal Festival Hall, London; The Lowry, Manchester; ICC, Birmingham to name a few. Recent international performances include Tanzhaus, Dusseldorf , Dublin International Dance Festival and Dance Festival in Paris. Sonia is recognised for her enchanting stage presence, grace and musicality; and her extraordinary ability to enthral audiences.
Her collaborative approaches with different dance traditions include Bharthanatyam, Ballet, Contemporary and Modern. Daringly, Sonia has performed Kathak to a range of compositions by great composers such as J.S. Bach, Thelonious Monk, Stevie Wonder and others based on Fusion music. She also works very closely with theatre companies in the UK and has given successful performances in theatres across Europe.
