Mark Bruce trained at Rambert School, and has choreographed and danced professionally throughout England and abroad including work with Rosas, Introdans, Extemporary Dance Theatre and DJazzex. In 1991, he formed The Mark Bruce Company as a vehicle for his own, at times controversial, style of dance theatre and produced seven programmes of work, including Dance Hall at Louse Point, a collaboration with Polly Jean Harvey and John Parish. Mark continues to work extensively in the theatre, notably with the Manchester Royal Exchange where productions have included Antony and Cleopatra, Peer Gynt, As You Like It and The Way of the World. He directed Rick Bland's Thick for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and subsequent presentation in Canada and New York. He has worked with Ruth Gibson and Bruno Martelli of Igloo in a variety of new media, screen and interactive stage productions. Mark writes music for his own and other productions, has made several short films and teaches professionally in England and abroad. In 2004 he relocated from London to Somerset and is currently Associate Artist of Dance SouthWest. He is affiliated with the Merlin Theatre in Frome where a new production for his company, entitled Sea of Bones, will premier in September 2006. In 2005, Mark made Fever To Tell for Probe, the dance touring project led by Antonia Grove and Theo Clinkard.
