Founded in 2009 as a choreographic collaboration between Jonathan Goddard and Gemma Nixon, Goddard Nixon has grown to steady acclaim. In the last year work has been performed both nationally and internationally at the Royal Opera House, the Royal Court, the Victoria and Albert Museum, The Place, in India and throughout Spain.

Third, a duet danced by Jonathan Goddard and Gemma Nixon is inspired by the challenge and mystery of extreme Arctic situations. The title refers to a line from the T.S. Eliot poem The Waste Land:
"Who is the third who walks always beside you?"

Eliot included this line after hearing of a mysterious encounter experienced by the explorer Ernest Shackleton  and his men on his famous 1916 expedition.
