ABOUT JELKA
Jelka Milic is a Slovene born choreographer and videodance artist based in London. She has studied at University of Ljubljana, Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, Austria and at Middlesex Univesity, London. Alongside developing her own choreographic practice she has worked with Matsune & Subal Co., Eileen Standley, SPP2 Dance Company and others. Her most recent work includes Soft Verticals (2007), a short dance piece performed at the Old Truman Brewery and Sadler's Wells. Her choreographic work Folding (2007), which was created as a co-production with Das Szene (Salzburg) and SEAD, toured internationally and was part of prominent dance platforms including 4th Balkan Dance Platform in Athens, Puro Sangue Festival in Milano, New Faces New Dances Festival in Salzburg , WUK in Vienna. Her videodance work First I have Breakfast (2006) has been awarded at the International Kansk Videodance Festival and also screened at Videodance Festival Athens, On Screen 312 Festival in Newfoundland, Canada, Belgrade Alternative Film Festival, Belgrade and Montage Videodance Festival, Johannesburg, South Africa (in partnership with FNB Dance Umbrella 2008). Jelka's work has been informed by her intense studies in language and literature, her diverse interests in social and cultural studies and the broad awareness of the variety of dance manifestations and approaches to performing.
ABOUT THE WORK
Jelka's piece will look at the struggle of the fusible body through reality. A group of six female dancers undergo a variety of physical transformations and performative modes, as Jelka looks at the body as a socially, culturally and physically inscribed entity.

You might've come across a video of Jelka's Folding performed at the WUK in Vienna on YouTube. Her piece Soft Verticals was performed at Sadler's Wells in 2007.
WHERE YOU CAN SEE HER NEXT
The next opportunity to see Jelka's work is The Place Prize. Her piece will be performed in the Previews on Monday 8 September and in the Semi-Finals on Saturday 13 September.
