A new space for dance

Official Opening of a New Space for Dance

On Tuesday 6 May HRH the Duke of York opened our two new state-of-the-art dance studios. The Duke was joined by The Mayor of Camden, staff and students of The Place and a large number of donors to the Reaching for the Stars Appeal for the official ribbon cutting ceremony.

Our special guests were given their first glimpse of the finished studios, before being treated to a performance by students of London Contemporary Dance School and the Centre for Advanced Training, plus a short piece from Richard Alston Dance Company. The performance, which was delightfully received, was a sample of the range of work created at The
Place. The new studios give us an additional 7,000 hours of studio time each year, and the benefit of this extra capacity will be felt by everyone who comes to The Place to dance.

As a direct result, we have been able to expand our Centre for Advanced Training for exceptionally talented 10-18 year olds and increase provision for our Learning and Access projects, as well as providing additional time and space for students and emerging choreographers to create new work. With the building work completed on time and on budget, we can now look forward to enjoying the new work created in these spaces
over the coming years.

The Place would like to say a huge thank you to all of the individuals, companies and trusts that so generously contributed to the Reaching for the Stars Appeal to build the new studios. We are absolutely thrilled with the results of the fundraising appeal and are delighted to announce that the total now stands at just under £950,000. We are very grateful
for the kind support of the following donors, as well as all those who wish to remain anonymous:
