ABOUT ALETTA
Aletta Collins was born in London and studied at London Contemporary Dance School before going on to become a dancer and choreographer with London Contemporary Dance Theatre. In 1990 she won the major prize for dance theatre as the British National Selection at the 20th International Choreographic Meeting in France, as well as the Bonnie Bird Award for choreography. Aletta was resident choreographer at The Place from 1998-99. She has created work for Rambert Dance Company, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Bejing Olympic torch ceremonies and has worked extensively in theatre, film and opera as both a choreographer and director. Her own Aletta Collins Dance Company has toured extensively throughout the UK and abroad and has made numerous short dance films for television, including the BBC and Channel 4. Her short film The Girl in the Red Dress, starring Shirley Henderson, was seen at the Cannes, Edinburgh and London Film Festivals.
ABOUT THE WORK
Aletta is creating a solo for dancer Rachel Krische, which will be a dialogue between Rachel and her laptop. The piece will feature music by Peter Morris and Mieko Shimizu at Street Furniture.
WHERE YOU'VE SEEN HER
Aletta choreographed the West End revival of Jesus Christ Superstar, which played at the Lyceum Theatre from 2006-2008. Her work is so diverse it can be seen in outlets ranging from Nokia commercials to the Bill Murray film The Man Who Knew too Little to The Royal Opera's Olivier Award-winning production of The Tempest. She choreographed the world record-breakingmass dance which took place in Trafalgar Square in July as part of Big Dance 2008.

Lap Dancer has been selected as a finalist for The Place Prize, and will be performed nightly from Wed 17 - Sat 27 September (excluding Sun 21 September).
