Graduating BA and certificate students of London Contemporary Dance School present Graduation Performances at The Place’s Robin Howard Dance Theatre from Friday 3 – Friday 10 July.
The repertoire for the performances includes a recreation of Richard Alston’s Blow Over and new commissions from Hanna Gillgren, Lorena Randi and Jose Vidal, all former students of LCDS, and from Colin Poole, a former Associate Artist of The Place and Place Prize semi-finalist. The Graduation Performances will also include specially selected works choreographed by graduating students.
About 90% of London Contemporary Dance School students go on to professional employment each year. Among those who have successfully auditioned for some of the UK’s leading contemporary dance companies this year are Femi Oyewole and Moreno Solinas, who have both been chosen for DV8’s world tour of To Be Straight With You and Nathan Goodman, who has been chosen to join Richard Alston Dance Company as a full member. Solinas will initially work with Rafael Bonachela Company for a three-month project before joining the DV8 tour.
For the dancers, these performances represent the culmination of their Certificate of Higher Education and BA (Hons) degree courses at one of the world’s leading conservatoires. The diverse range of works shows the breadth of their studies; the excellence of the performance demonstrates the quality of their training. The School is based at The Place, the UK’s premier centre for contemporary dance.
Ahead of the Graduation Performances, there are performances of MA choreography work on Fri 26 and Sat 27 June 8pm at The Place, and a showing of work by research student Vanessa Mildenburg on Sat 27 June at June 3pm.
