Tickets are on sale now for the preview, semi-final and finals performances of The Place Prize for dance 2008, sponsored by Bloomberg, which run from 2 - 27 September 2008.
The Place Prize, sponsored by Bloomberg, is a choreography competition. It runs every two years, each time commissioning twenty UK-based choreographers to create new dance works to be performed at The Place in London. From these, five finalists are selected and, following further performances, an overall winner.
Each commissioned artist receives £5,000 and studio time to make their work, which will have a preview performance and a judged, ‘semi-final’ performance at The Place. The five finalists will be contracted for a two-week run at The Place and eligible for ten nightly prizes of £1,000, voted for by the audience. The overall winner, chosen by a panel of judges, receives £25,000.
Anyone based in the UK making dance as a profession can enter The Place Prize by submitting a three minute video illustrating the stimulus for their choreographic idea.
The third Place Prize will be held in 2008, with performances at The Place from Tuesday 2 – Saturday 27 September. Entries for the competition have now closed, and the 20 artists commissioned will be announced in April.
The Place Prize’s aim is to put contemporary dance in the limelight, celebrating and illuminating it for audiences both familiar and new. We hope to encourage a diversity of applicants and welcome entries from all parts of the community. The Place Prize is organised by The Place, and sponsored by Bloomberg.
